Arsenal v Liverpool Betting Preview
A big clash between two sides who have suffered some patchy form of late. The Gunners head into the match at the Emirates on Wednesday night with a three point lead over Liverpool. The race for a top five finish and a place in Europe next season is on. Arsene Wenger’s men have some recent good history against Liverpool in the Premier League and therefore go as favourites. Can Liverpool close the gap on the Gunners, or will Arsenal give themselves a nice little cushion over the Anfield crew?

Arsenal v Liverpool Recommended Bet:
The Gunners are looking like a side who can score for fun at the moment, particularly at home. They have failed to get on the scoresheet just once in the last thirteen matches in all competitions. There has been a bit of inconsistency at home though, winning three and losing two of their last five. Overall, Arsenal’s recent form hasn’t been great as they have won just one of their last four in the league. A dour 1-1 draw at Southampton on New Years Day preceded back to back defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea. They turned in a great offensive display in their last league outing when they thumped West Ham 5-1 to restore a bit of confidence. It has been defensive liabilities which have cost them in the last few matches, but generally they have been in solid shape at home this season.
Arsene Wenger’s men are still pushing for a top five finish still this season, and the boss took a risk in sending out an under strength side against Brighton in the FA Cup on the weekend. A late goal from Theo Walcott sent the Gunners through 3-2. The resting of players could pay off doubly so if they can take a good three points off Liverpool. The Gunners have good recent history when the Anfield Reds come to town. Arsenal have lost just one of the last twelve meetings in the league at home against Liverpool. Overall in the last eleven encounters with Liverpool home and away there have been six draws between the two sides. Lukas Podolski leads the Premier League for assists this season and his input along with Santi Cazorla will be vital. They can be vulnerable at the back, but the Gunners will be favoured because of their attacking output.
Liverpool have taken just eight points away from their last dozen trips to north London to face Arsenal. Brendan Rodgers’ men have started to find more of a winning touch over the past couple of months, but they have also been very prone to major slip ups. They have lost four of their last ten Premier League matches, winning the other three. One trend that is worth looking at is, their clean sheets. The last four wins for the Reds in the Premier League have all come with a clean sheet in tow. All four of the defeats mentioned saw Liverpool score one goal in each of them. So they can be hit and miss and need to gather themselves after a woeful display against Oldham in the FA Cup on the weekend.
Liverpool were defensively horrendous and lacked any fighting commitment and spirit, and Rodgers called them out for that. Liverpool, jointly with Man United have taken the most Premier League away wins at Arsenal, but their recent form there hasn’t been top notch. The Reds have averaged the highest possession rate in matches this season in the top flight and Luis Suarez has created more goal scoring chances from open play than anyone else across the top five European leagues. Little surprise that they will need him on his best form. The Reds lost at Anfield 2-0 against Arsenal earlier in the season, but earned a 1-1 draw at the Emirates last season. Arsenal have scored at a rate of 2.7 goals per game at home and that should just tip the balance in favour of the home side, who are worth backing at a positive price of 29/20 at online bookmaker Bet Victor.
